Plano Federal Criminal Defense Lawyer

Providing clients with powerful representation since 1996

Criminal defense is an expansive body of law that contains niche practice areas that not every lawyer has the knowledge and experience to handle. Two of these niche areas are federal criminal defense and pre-trial diversion programs. Federal criminal defense is a complex area of law that requires attorneys to have a mastery of the procedural systems involved and considerable skill in the courtroom. In comparison, pre-trial diversion programs are a relatively new method of deferring punishment offered to first-time and juvenile offenders who have broken the law.

If you need an attorney to handle either of these matters, you have come to the right place. My name is Mac Morris, and I am a Collin County criminal defense attorney with considerable experience litigating federal criminal matters and helping clients enter pre-trial diversion programs.  For more information about these areas of law or to schedule an initial consultation, call me today at (972) 673-0083 or contact me online.

More than 16 years experience representing clients in federal court

If you have been charged with a federal crime in Texas, it is extremely important to hire a lawyer who has tried these cases before. Convictions for these crimes often come with heavy fines and a lengthy jail sentence, and you cannot afford to take a risk on an inexperienced attorney.

Since 1997, I have litigated hundreds of federal cases in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern District Courts of Texas. I focus this area of practice on representing clients who have been charged with federal drug offenses, including drug conspiracy cases, interstate drug trafficking and the manufacture and delivery of controlled substances. An experienced Plano drug defense lawyer, I work closely with my clients to develop their cases and strive to get their charges dismissed before having to go to trial. However, should the need for litigation arise, you can feel confident that I can help you secure the best possible results in your case.

Pre-trial diversion in Collin County

In 2011, Collin County became one of the first counties in central Texas to adopt a pre-trial diversion program. This program allows first-time offenders  the opportunity to have their arrest and conviction wiped off their criminal record, provided they complete the program and then file an expunction. The program generally lasts between six and twelve months and provides the offender with a probation officer to oversee their progress. To qualify for this program, the accused must have an attorney, be accused of a non-aggravated offense, and have never been in trouble before. If successful, a person who completes this program will have their case dismissed.

During your intake and office interviews, I sit down with clients to determine their eligibility for this program. Once the case has been assigned to a trial court, I go to the prosecutor's office and request the case be considered for the pre-trial diversion program. If the trial court prosecutor approves, the request is sent through to the Collin County District Attorney's office for final approval. If approved, you are invited to meet with your probation officer and given the chance to enter the program.

I work closely with accepted clients to ensure that they comply with the terms of their programs, and can help them file for an expungement at its conclusion.
